I clocked myself at 2:06:21, but I can’t argue about a second.
The course was so crowded and I could never just go and run, there were so many people and I had to work so hard just to pass people.
I think there were over 20,000 people and the unofficial result have me finishing in 3941st place.
It really got crowded around the 5 mile point and I just kept getting stuck in huge packs of people. There was supposed to be a staggered start, but I am imagining that the people in front of me must have really misjudged their time. I was 6 minutes slow and still got held up by the crowd.
By the time it was over, I had to pass over 6000 people.
I pasted the splits below.
| Splits: | 5 Km | 10 Km | 10 Mi | 11.3 Mi | 20 Km | Finish | O’All | Sex | Div |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Times: | 25:26 | 54:17 | 1:33:33 | 1:48:11 | 1:57:24 | 2:06:22 | 3941 | 2543 | 441 |
| Pace: | 8:11 | 8:45 | 9:22 | 9:35 | 9:27 | 9:39 |

Great job! What are you going to do to celebrate?

You are funny.
Cut grass and wash clothes!

that’s great! I’m tellin ya, man, I am going to get to the point one day where I can do it, and now I have a time to beat!
Thanks…I am not done though. I am on the hunt for another race soon. I am in shape and, as you will find out soon enough, it is much easier to maintain being in shape than getting there.

Great job!!! How are you feeling now that it’s all done?
Cheers!
Jamie
I have been good most of the day. I held off cutting the grass until tomorrow. I am a little “tight” but I will stretch a bit tonight and in the morning. There is no specific pain, just a general soreness. The pain would have been easier to bear if I had actually finished 6 minutes and 23 seconds sooner. My knees weren’t a problem, but general leg strength was. I will have to work up some speed training to develope some additional leg strength for the next one.

It may not have been the time you were hoping for but considering the size of the group it sounds like you did a great job. The time doesn’t really matter right? Isn’t it the knowledge that you did it? You started something and finished it! Good job and congratulations.
To most, the fact of running the distance would be enough, but I am wired a bit differently. I am happy…just not joyous.

Wow! You’re my new hero. (Well, until someone fixes the master bathroom toilet.) Congrats!
Way to keep it real. When the dust settles, fixing the toilet is much more important.

Great job! Now how are you going to convince your wife that you still need to get out and run so long everyday?? There is no marathon to prep for. I guess you could say you are practicing your getaway incase you come upon any supposedly uninhabited houses and try to break in
You have just hit the nail on the head. She has said the same thing. There is a local full marathon in March and I will keep that on my radar. I think she does actually understand my “goal driven” way of thinking. I could get away from someone chasing me as long as they wern’t able to run 13.1 miles in UNDER two hours. See I need to be faster.

I’m amazed by the numbers! You had an impressive finish. It sounds REALLY frustrating to get held up and spend your energy on passing people. I suppose that’s something you just have to get used to when running marathons though.
You are right about the passing people and running in crowds. It was a bit silly of me to think that I would have clear sailing. I was in good enough shape to do what I wanted and that is the accomplishment here. I like to plug into a pace and just run. I know now that I need to plan for an uneven pace and then have the ability to put in two 8 minute miles at the end. This was a learning experience and I feel better today than I did yesterday about the experience.

Bringing the camera wasn’t something I had considered. There was no rooting section to take any “action” shots so there is no visual record of my participation…sorry!

Passing 6000 people – that sounds like my drive to Indianapolis in a few weeks!
Seriously, man, that’s awesome. As you said, most people would be happy just finishing. Personally, I think I’m happiest NOT finishing…that’s MY different wiring!

Congratulations! So, so, so completely impressive:) Your self-discipline is extraordinary. I think if I was stuck in a pack of slow runners I’d opt out for an ice cream sandwich on the side of the road – lol. Obviously, this is not something I expect will manifest in my future.
On the other hand, I will admit to you and you alone that I am now under 200 lbs., which means I’ve lost more than 50. It’s a secret.
